10/30/2019 Update
While the nuts and bolts of our renovation doesn't begin until January, there is a long list of per-construction "to-dos" that we have to accomplish. This begins with our books, in the end of 2018 we completed a large "weeding" project. Weeding is the process of removing books from the collection that haven't circulated over several years. Weeding is a necessary project as it allows more room in our collection for more relevant and up to date books, it allows more room in our budget to expand our digital collection, and makes it easier to find books in the library.
In preparing for the construction we want to make sure as much of our physical collection is available at all times. In order to do this we have to "squeeze" our collection together, filling in the top and bottom rows of the stacks and filling the shelves to capacity. So while it may appear that we have gotten rid of more books, we haven't, we've just made them a little cozier for awhile.
We understand that this can make physically reaching the books harder, in order to make it a little easier we have included step stools at the end of each of our shelves that can be used, or if you are not comfortable using the step stool, one of our library staff will certainly assist you in getting your books!
