Happenings

In case you only know the Friends of the Library from our super popular book sales, you don’t know the half of it! Check out some of our events!

Recent:

The Friends have been recognized in a national industry magazine for their widely popular Music & Mocktails event. Here's to community, inclusive events, and creative connections.

Did you join the Friends and the Grand Forks LEGO Users Group for the second year at the Annual Holiday LEGO Display opening night?

And don’t overlook some of the other events and projects we fund and host:

  • Turns out a lot of people still have fond memories of the Scholastic Book Fair! The version the Friends, Abigail’s Books and Gifts, and Silver Dawn Books hosted in June was a rousing success!
  • Are you familiar with subscription boxes? The Friends fully fund the library’s popular Teen Novel(ties) subscription service. The program provides this hard-to-engage demographic with a personally selected novel to check out every other month along with book swag to keep.
  • Do you think card catalogs are a thing of the past? Not at GFP_. The Friends provide a large part of the funding for the library’s Care Catalog, which is a converted card catalog that holds a variety of hygiene and body care items, free to those who need them.

Upcoming:

And here are a few to look forward to in the coming months:

  • Fall Book Sale – Mark your calendar. Our twice-yearly sales are how we fund all these projects and events. The Fall Book Sale will be September 25-27, 2025. Check the calendar for sale hours.
  • Harvest House Decorating Contest – A fun new crafty contest is coming your way this Fall.
  • Music & Mocktails - Coming back to Grand Forks Public_ on Saturday, Oct. 11! For the fourth year, join the Grand Forks Public Friends at the library to sample the best mocktails our community has to offer. Enjoy the music of the Downtown Horns as you sip and mingle, and help us crown the Master of the Mocktail at the end of the night. All proceeds from this 18-and-older event will support the Friends and future library programming.
  • Six Word Story Contest – Try your hand (or keyboard) at telling a story in six words.
  • Family Photo Days – Skip the selfies and let our volunteer photographers snap some family pics!
